This book was highly recommended by Sci Fi Magazine. I bought and read the bookand loved it. This is what was printed in Sci Fi Magazine.
"Alas, there are few secrets as zealously-guarded, within the field of imaginative fiction, as the depth and breadth of the joys to be found within the short fiction of Lois Gresh. Though a NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author and occasional go-to personality for television appearances based on attributes like her expert knowledge of Batman, and though a frequent mainstay of magazines and theme anthologies (where she's known to nod indulgently at the topic of the moment and then launches wildly into territory undreamt-of by those who composed the guidelines), the fame she deserves has always failed to stick, as if it were a fried egg and the fickle memories of the reading public a hot skillet greased with PAM. This collection may not correct that injustice, but it's certainly an extravagant gift for those of us in the know, and those of us open to fiction that leaves "formula" several highway service plazas behind.
Not all her protagonists are human. Some are invertebrates, and a couple are microscopic. There's even one written from the point of view of subatomic particles.
Among the highlights: "Soleman," a weird-sex story that does for foot fetishism what Psycho did for showers; "Lust Of The Giant Sloth," which is about, well, we don't really need to add much to that. And then there's "Debutante Ball"....oh, that story. Journalistic integrity requires me to report that I first encountered it many, many years ago, when Lois first wrote it, for an anthology that failed to reward its devastating genius. It may be the ultimate take on the terrible things we do to ourselves in the name of body image, taking place as it does in a world where that has been taken to particularly horrific extremes. It's a difficult story to take, but in a perfect literary landscape it would now be as well-remembered as Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery." I am entirely serious about this. And when you read it, you'll concur."

ELDRITCH EVOLUTIONS 26 Dark Science Fiction Fantasy Stories eBook Lois Gresh Reviews
Kind of a bummer as I was hoping for some cosmic horror to brighten my day. After reading the rest of the reviews I thought I would give this a shot and I'm dissappointed. So dissapointed in fact that I couldn't finish the book on a 12 hour flight. Only a few of the stories are Lovecraftian. The rest are, well, modern. Kind of cutting edge cyber punk with a little freaky foot fetish revenge sex thrown in. Really a different take to the stories that nod to Lovcraft but not a lot of atmosphere and none of the cosmic horror I was craving.
For the most part, calling this 'Mythos' literature is a stretch. Although a few of the stories were engaging and fun, the majority seemed to be hammering away at a few themes that were dried up after the first go. I was disappointed on a number of fronts- most significantly on story selection and some really, really terrible editing (many misspellings, typesetting problems, etc.).
I think the author is talented, but suffered from a bit of a creative rut in including so many 'biological computers' stories. It makes an okay airport read, but if you are looking for stories that will stick with you, create atmosphere, and keep you thinking, I can't recommend it.
My favorite mythology, H P Lovecraft' s Cthulhu mythos. These 26 stories are helping keep Mr Lovecraft alive. Not sure how many books, of this nature introduce the mythos to new readers, but hope it is lots. H P is part of America' s writing history, same as Edgar Allen Poe.
Not specifically Cthulhu fiction, neither " regular weird stories" nor "cosmic horror". I think Lois Gresh must read A LOT tales written by H.P. Lovecraft, Robert Bloch, Robert E. Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, Thomas LIgotti and Stanley Sargent BEFORE try to write her stories.
